This setting formats both Original and Converted values. For typed numbers, text cells and CSV, it also controls how separators are read. Excel numeric cells keep their stored values.

Understand the scale. Read the number.

Bai (百) means hundred; qian (千) means thousand. Wan (万 / 萬) and yi (亿 / 億) represent ten thousand and one hundred million. Convert the scale while keeping the same underlying quantity.

How do wan (万) and yi (亿) relate to million and billion?

1 wan (万) is 10,000, so 100 wan (万) equals 1 million. 1 yi (亿) is 100 million, so 10 yi (亿) equals 1 billion. Here, billion means 1,000,000,000. This changes the number scale, not the currency.

Can I convert a CSV or Excel file?

Yes. Select Multiple values, then Upload a file. Choose a CSV or .xlsx file, select the worksheet and number column, check the units and preview the results. Download CSV or Excel with the original data and new result columns. Files are processed on your device. You can also paste one number per line.

What should my Excel or CSV file look like?

Keep your existing column names and other data. Put the values to convert in one column and use one From unit for that column. This is an example, not a required template.

Example worksheet — your headings can be different
RowABCD
1PriceValueBlankBlank
2101206Blank
320940Blank

“Blank” marks an empty cell in this illustration. Leave those cells empty in your own file.

  1. Choose Multiple values → Upload a file. For an Excel file with several worksheets, choose the worksheet you need.
  2. A, B, C and D are column letters. Row 1 contains the headings here, so leave “First row contains column names” checked. Uncheck it if your numbers start on row 1.
  3. Choose B — Value to convert 120 and 94. “B” identifies the column; “Value” is its heading. Choose your units, check the number format and review the preview before downloading.

A — Price stays in the download. C — No heading has data (6 and 0), so it can also be selected. D — Empty column has no heading or values, so it is gray and cannot be selected. The converter adds converted_value and converted_unit after your original columns.

Use UTF-8 CSV or an unprotected .xlsx file: up to 5 MB, 500 data rows and 50 columns. Use plain values; replace formulas with their calculated values first. Selected blank cells stay blank. Invalid values show #ERROR. Downloads contain cell values, not the original workbook’s styling, formulas or other worksheets.

What is the difference between 1,234.56 and 1.234,56?

They can represent the same value: one thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56 hundredths. Decimal point uses 1,234.56; decimal comma uses 1.234,56. Choose the format used in your source. This setting updates both Original and Converted preview values and how typed numbers, CSV and Excel text cells are read. Excel numeric cells keep their stored value. Downloads preserve the original data and use the selected decimal separator without thousands separators for converted values, such as 1234.56 or 1234,56. Changing language does not change the selected number format.

Are my uploaded files sent to a server?

The current converter reads selected files and calculates results locally in your browser. It does not send your file contents, entered numbers or results to our servers. Your work stays in this tab while you switch tools or languages; refreshing or closing the page may clear it. Downloaded files remain on your device until you delete them. If you use another platform’s preview, that platform’s own privacy practices also apply.

Macau precision note: the official table lists 1 liang = 37.79931 g and also 1/16 jin. These differ slightly. This converter consistently uses the listed SI gram values, so Macau jin-to-liang results differ slightly from 16. Hong Kong uses the exact 1/16 relationship.
